Whatever business or personal growth goals you want to achieve in the future, you’re going to need an effective plan to deliver that success. And execution of that plan will see you starting to generate momentum as a result.

However, unless you know how to generate the right type of momentum, you’ll likely find yourself falling short of achieving your goals and missing your targets.

It’s important, then, to make sure you are…

Planning for growth correctly and creating success momentum along the way

First, let’s start by looking at the definition of “momentum”;

Momentum
/məˈmɛntəm/

noun

  1. PHYSICS
    The quantity of motion of a moving body, measured as a product of its mass and velocity.
  2. The impetus gained by a moving object.

From the definition you may have noticed momentum indeed relates to Newton’s 1st Law of Motion (yes, that’s right – Sir Isaac Newton; he of the alleged apple on the head fame!)

That law states…

Every object will remain in a state of rest or uniform motion unless acted upon by an external force“.

“Errrm – excuse me?”

Ok – translating that into layman’s terms means this;

Every situation (object) you are currently facing will stay exactly the same (remain in a state of uniform motion) unless you execute a plan (external force) against it to make it change.

By way of a simple example…

Let’s imagine your online business is currently and consistently generating £X per month and you want that to increase to £2X per month within the next 3 months.

Unless you create and implement a plan to make that happen, save a sudden and unexpected upturn in your industry, in 3 months’ time you’ll more than likely still be generating the same rate of £X per month.

“Yes – not a particularly earth-shattering revelation” you may say – and we agree, it’s pretty damn obvious.

But here’s the thing…

Though simple and obvious it may seem, it’s clearly not easy to do – because if it was, the majority of people would already be successful and you wouldn’t be here reading these words!

The question to ask, then, is where hiding within this simple equation is the difficulty in creating these successful outcomes?

Wherein are those pesky trap doors concealed?

The answer is…

Your future goal failures lie dormant and buried inside the structure and execution of your plans

You see, there are certain aspects of a success plan that many people often neglect to include and address. And it’s these omissions that cause them to fail.

Although you end up taking “massive action”, you still fall short of the target.

Irrespective of whether the plan is there to achieve goals for your business, professional, or personal life, the work you put it in will often lead to disappointing results.

The reason?…

Because you failed to build the right kind of momentum from the actions you took – the type of momentum that is critical in helping lead you to the success you are striving for.

You need to generate success momentum, and there are 4 specific aspects your growth plan needs to include in order for that to happen…

  1. Discern your starting position before you begin the goal-setting process
  2. Set your SMART goals and define any characteristics you feel will be needed to attain them
  3. Take constant and focused action only in the direction of your goals
  4. Be accountable and take full ownership of results and outcomes generated in step 3

Now you’ve been introduced to the 4, critical, building blocks of successful planning that lead to generation of success momentum, let’s take a deep look at each element in turn.
